Agona Swedru, April 20, GNA - Nana Kwame Eyiah, Tufohene of Apam has urged Ghanaians to show appreciation to hard working medical doctors in rural areas for their invaluable contributions towards the country's health delivery system.
Such moral booster could be done not only through cash or material gifts, but also through ordinary words of encouragement and presentation of "letters of appreciation", he said.
District, Municipal and Metropolitan Assemblies, Traditional Councils and Churches could adopt this method as an effective tool to ensure increased productivity in all spheres of national endeavour, he added.
Nana Eyiah who is also the Managing Director of K. E. & Sons Limited, a road constructional firm, was speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Agona Swedru.
He described Dr Charles Ntsiamoah Takyi, Medical Superintendent in-charge of the Apam Catholic Mission Hospital as one of such hardworking, devoted, dedicated and highly committed medical doctors in the country who have made notable contributions to the promotion of health over the years.
According to Nana Eyiah, since Dr Takyi took over the administration of the Apam Mission Hospital some 18 years ago, the health facility had seen remarkable improvement both in quality health delivery and infrastructure development.
He said, "One important phenomenon about Dr Takyi, which I would for many years to come remember and cherish, is Dr Takyi's high sense of fellow-feeling and love for patients. Deep in the night, Dr Takyi would make himself available when called upon to attend to patients in critical condition"
Nana Eyiah called on the people in the District to give what he described as "an open and bold recognition" to Dr Takyi for his services to the farmers, fishermen, fishmongers, traders and workers in the area to encourage him and other health workers to render more services to the people.
He said that he would collaborate with the authorities of the hospital to enhance health delivery in the area. 20 April 05
