Armageddon Strikes NPP

In-Fighting Reaches Dizzy Heights As Akuffo Addo And Allan Kyeremanteng’s “Boys” Squeeze Necks On Air

There was no way the NPP was going to be able to avoid fighting in the open as their congress date draws nigh and if what happened on Tuesday, July 10, 2007, is anything to go by, then the imminent implosion in the NPP would happen even before their congress, and then hit the final self-destruct button just after their bitter contest.

Seething with anger and not hiding his abhorrence for what he considers to be a very disdainful way of shooting down the chances of Allan “Cash” Kyeremateng by the Akuffo Addo Faction, one Kuuku Welsin Jones, an official mouthpiece of the Allan Cash Faction, went ballistic on Radio Gold’s Newspaper Review Programme that Tuesday.

Reacting to a piece that Gabby Otchere Darko, Editor of the Statesman Newspaper, and an arrow head for the Akuffo Addo faction had penned in his paper, Kuuku Welsing Jones took issue with the way Gabby painted a sordid picture with regard to John Agyekum Kufuor openly throwing his weight behind Allan Cash, who is believed to be Kufuor’s “son in whom he is well pleased”.

Mr. Welsing Jones, attacked the Akuffo Addo Faction for their “dirty” campaign style and actually questioned the professional competence of Gabby as regards the journalistic profession.

According to Kuuku, Gabby’s journalistic style is what is practiced by untrained charlatans who are not interested in bringing glory to the profession, but use their pen to pursue sectarian and factional interests to the detriment of society,

“What Gabby is using his paper to do is despicable and very unprofessional” a livid Kuuku screamed on the airwaves.

According to Kuuku, he sees nothing wrong if Kufuor is openly supporting Allan Cash because it only makes sense for Kufuor to choose somebody he thinks can continue with the good(?) works that have been started.

Throwing more light on his take that Kufuor must openly declare his support for Allan Cash, Kuuku Welsing Jones said the if he does not admire former president Rawlings for anything, he admires him for stating in 1999 at Swedru that should Professor Atta Mills put himself up for election as flagbearer of the NDC, he (Rawlings) would throw his weight behind the learned professor.

According to Kuuku, if the NDC today has a very credible, respectable and winnable candidate in Professor Atta Mills, he believes that it is because President Rawlings saw the good qualities in the professor and so declared his unflinching support for him.

Of course, what President Rawlings saw in Professor Atta Mills, is centuries ahead of what the failed Kufuor may be seeing in scandal-dogged Allan Cash.

In the said article, Gabby made it abundantly clear that the favoritism that Kufuor is exhibiting in favour of Allan, and allowing his (Kufuor) name to be used by the “Castle Boys” as they go around canvassing for support for Allan, would do Allan no good as it is making the other contestants “gang up” against Allan.

Apart from the ganging up against Allan, Gabby did not hide the fact that unacceptable behaviour of Kufuor would lead to the unavoidable implosion in the NPP.

Delving deep into his repertoire of choice words with some of them loaded with high octaves of abuse.

Inter alia, Gabby wrote:

“The fear is that the NPP ship has become game for the political party pirates. With loyalties and support bases that have been built over the years being plundered by latter-day buccaneers armed with the swords and canons of Ghana cedi, spotting both fake and authentic passes from the Castle

You cannot pretend not to smell the growing pungency of evidence that alleged attempts by the President to push the candidacy of a single candidate is attracting overwhelming dissatisfaction within the other camps. A while back, even though the rumours were gaining weight, with several independent corroborations, Qanawu was still ready to throw them all into a junk heap. But, you cannot claim to be percipient and continue to disregard the kind of admissible evidence that even a kangaroo court would find difficult to slough off

For the President to throw his mighty weight behind a candidate in a contest over-packed with heavyweights would smack of the kind of amateurish sordidity one would normally not associate with a seasoned politician like His Excellency the President”

Based on what happened on Radio Gold between the Allan Cash Faction and the Akuffo Addo Faction, and the high level of acrimony that was exhibited, it would not be difficult for the average mind to believe it as the Allan Cash Faction continues to blame the Akuffo Addo Faction of being behind the throwing in the fray, the numerous scandals that Allan is battling to fly over.

It is said that if two elephants fight, it is the ground that suffers. This time around, two elephants are fighting and it is Armageddon that is striking the NPP.

Meanwhile, the Allan / Akuffo Addo factional fighting, is only one in a thousand.
