Delegates of the National Democratic Congress in Ellembelle Constituency of the Western Region have maintained Emmanuel Armah Kofi-Buah as their 2020 parliamentary candidate.

The opposition party held its parliamentary primaries in 157 constituencies last week Saturday, August 24 without Ellembelle constituency because the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the party had put that constituency on hold.

The primaries was held at Kamgbunli Islamic Basic School Park and Asomase Basic School Park on Saturday, August 31, 2019.

The incumbent MP, Armah Buah was contested by a Branch Chairman of the party at Nkroful, Miezah Mea-Alleah and this is the first time since 2007, he has been contested in the party's parliamentary primaries.

At the end of the contest on Saturday, the delegates overwhelmingly gave Armah Kofi-Buah a landslide victory.

He pulled 993 votes representing 91 percent to beat his main contender, Miezah Mea-Alleah who only garnered 99 votes representing 9.0 per cent after a total of 1, 096 delegates voted.

The election was supervised by Mr. Stephen Aidoo, the Ellembelle District Director of Electoral Commission (EC).

It was witnessed by the Western Regional Executives of the party led by its Chairman, Nana Kojo Toku. The poll witnessed 4 spoiled ballot papers.

The party in the Western Region has so far selected parliamentary candidates for Jomoro, Shama, Ahanta West, Amenfi West, Amenfi Central, Sekondi, Prestea Huni-Valley, Wassa East and Ellembelle.

Addressing the charged delegates after his resounding victory, the former Petroleum Minister, Armah Kofi-Buah expressed his profound gratitude to the party's delegates and supporters for the massive support given to him and pledged his total commitment to work with all party members.

He also pledged to work with his contender to retain the parliamentary seat for the party in 2020.

Mr Armah Buah said he was going to work harder to increase the presidential votes for former President John Mahama come 2020.

He warned the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) not to try him again in 2020 because he was going to beat them again.

He said Ellembelle Constituency would continue to be a no-go-area for the NPP in 2020.

Speaking to Western Regional Chairman of the party, Nana Toku also thanked the delegates for voting massively for Armah Kofi-Buah.

He, therefore, said the Ellembelle Constituency was a stronghold of the party and this position must be maintained at all cost.

He advised the supporters and sympathisers not to allow the just ended primaries to divide their ranks but rather forge ahead in unity to be able to win the upcoming elections convincingly.

He seized the charged atmosphere to urge the failed candidate and his campaign team also and the winning team, to come together to work hard and retain the Ellembelle parliamentary seat in 2020.

The Regional Chairman re-echoed that all campaign teams must be abolished in the seven (7) Constituencies of the Region who had elected their 2020 parliamentary candidates.

He emphasized that all campaign activities must be suspended to allow the constituency executives to handle all the required activities.

However, the failed candidate, Miezah Mea-Alleah seized the charged atmosphere to congratulate Armah Buah for the resounding victory and therefore promised to rally behind him to retain the Ellembelle seat in 2020.

He called on worried supporters to put the defeat behind them and support Arma Buah and former President John Mahama.
