The Ghana Armed Forces last Saturday organised an "Open Day" for civilians to promote more friendly relations between them.
Adults and children trooped into all the garrisons of the Armed Forces to familiarize themselves with military life and activities.
The showcase included fun games and exhibition of Ghanaian soldiers' endeavours. It formed part of activities marking the 45th Independence Anniversary celebrations.
In Accra, most of the people thronged the El-Wak Stadium where the activities began with WOI Safo of the Military Police conducting the public round.
There were displays by dogs trained by the Military Police Dogs Academy, including obstacle crossing, how to disperse demonstrating crowds, attack and arrest of robbers and interesting games for the recreation of spectators.
The climax of the day for many was at the Air Force base at the Burma Camp, where some lucky people got chopper and helicopter rides.
Squadron Leader Dani Kaye said he was amazed at the number of people who came to acquaint themselves with the Air Force activities. "I am overwhelmed with their enthusiasm but doubtful if we can entertain them all."
He was not too happy that the majority of them were children and teenagers, though.
Another interesting place was Recce Regiment, also in Burma Camp, where over 200 children and a few adults went to see horse races and ride in armour cars.
At the 48 Engineering Training Centre at Teshie, there were mine awareness lectures followed by display of equipment.
Lt. D.A.D Dodoo explained that the 48 Engineering Regiment is the first military group to be on the field and the last to leave the battle zone, hence their slogan "one step ahead".
The regiment is responsible for constructing bridges, putting up buildings and other technical and engineering aspects during war.
At the 37 Military Hospital there was blood donation, eye tests and 'medicare'.
At every regiment, civilians were entertained with live music from the Military band and refreshments were provided for all.
