Armed Gang Attacks Newspaper Editor’s Family

An unknown number of armed men attacked the family of Mr. Alfred Ogbamey, Managing Editor of the Gye Nyame Concord, early Sunday, firing gunshots in the process.

Family sources say the men went into the home of the editor in Accra at about 12:30 am and attempted to break down the doors to Mr. Ogbamey’s bedroom.

Mr. Ogbamey was out of the country at the time of the attack. His wife and seven month old baby were the only ones home.

Family sources say the armed men fired two rounds of gun shots drawing incessant barks from the family dogs. When the dogs persisted, and the intruders could not break down the doors, they fled the house moments before a police patrol team reached the area after the badly shaken wife had reached the police through a third party.

It was not immediately known whether the armed men were robbers or hired guns after the life of the journalist.

Mr. Ogbamey recently published a series of stories alleging corruption in the award of a contract at the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority.
