The respite from armed robberies in Accra was in the early hours of Tuesday interrupted when a gang of armed robbers struck at Tesano in Accra. The robbers shot and wounded three people, including a seven-year-old boy, but they are responding to treatment.
The Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, Kofi Boakye told the GNA that two robbers, Ragga and Atta Ayi who are on the Police wanted list were involved in the robbery. They are at large and the police have initiated action to track them down
A victim, Ghana Review's distribution manager Robert Siaw who was shot in the chest told the GNA that he heard a distress call from the Abekah Queen mother, whose house shares a wall with his. He said he saw the Queen mother trying to scale over a wall to his house to escape from the robbers and so he rushed to her rescue.
Mr Siaw said one of the attackers, who followed the Queen mother to the wall saw him trying to pull her over the wall and fired a shot at him. Another victim Nii Otoo, son of the Queen mother, said around midnight he heard dogs in their house barking but when he went out he saw nothing strange.
When he turned to go back into the house, four armed men jumped over the wall into the house and demanded to know the whereabouts of his mother. Nii Otoo said a scuffle ensued between him and the attackers during which one of them shot him in the head. He said the robbers took away about 14 million cedis and jewellery belonging to his mother.
The victims said they made several calls to the Tesano Police but the Officer on duty kept on telling them to "Hold on".
