Armed robbers adopt new strategy to rob drivers

Tema, Dec. 14, GNA - The Tema Regional Police Command has warned the general public, especially motorists, about the use of sharp objects by armed robbers to deflate the tyres of vehicles plying the country's highways in order to rob them.

Chief Superintendent Daniel Odai who made this known during a press conference in Tema said one of the modus operandi of the robbers is to attach sharp implements to onions and place them on roads to trap travellers.

He said some drivers travelling on the Accra-Aflao high way have fallen victim to the plot.

Chief Supt. Odai said through the vigilance of the Community Watchdog Committees at Koni, Sege and Tsopoli six of the armed robbers have been arrested pending prosecution.

They include three Nigerians namely, George Eddum, 22, Festus Ehinobo, 22, Peter Sunday, alias Jerry, 20 and their Ghanaian counterparts, Anthony Dzigba, Osman Mohammed and Kingsley Timothy. Items seized from the robbers include talismans, sharp knives, toy pistols and shotguns.
