Armed robbers attack watchman of Kuntanase Government Hospital

Kuntnase (Ash), June 29, GNA- A group of robbers armed with cutlasses early this morning attacked the Kuntanase Government Hospital and inflicted several cutlass wounds on the night watchman.

They could, however, not steal anything as they bolted with one of the robbers who got wounded during the attack.

The attack was the second in almost one year. Sometime last year, robbers attacked the hospital and succeeded in stealing seven million cedis.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at his bedside at the Kuntanase Government Hospital, Mr Kwabena Nsiah, 47, the watchman, said at about 0130 hours, he was on duty at the administration block of the hospital when three masked men attacked him.

He said the three men surrounded and two of them held him while the other one inflicted cutlass wounds on him as he struggled with them. In the process, Mr Nsiah said, he managed to push one of the robbers to another watchman who slashed one of the robbers with a cutlass.

He said the robbers fled with the wounded robber when they saw another watchman approaching the scene.

The robbers escaped with a waiting Toyota Corolla taxi but the vehicle broke down a few metres from the scene of the crime, abandoned it and escaped.

Dr K.K. Hussein, the District Director of Health Services, appealed to health institutions throughout the country and traditional healers to be on the look out for any man with cutlass wounds who would come to them for treatment and report him to the nearest police station.
