Accra, Sept. 15, GNA - Two armed robbers on an unregistered motorbike on Tuesday shot dead the Chief Executive Officer of Louis Gas Company, Mr. Louis Aidoo, at his residence at Madina Estates in Accra. Speaking to GNA, the Madina District Police Commander, Chief Superintendent (CSP) David Eklu, said the Madina Police received information from a caller about the attack of the armed robbers at about 2000 hours.
He quickly dispatched the Night Patrol Team to the crime scene but unfortunately the victim, who had then been rushed to the Legon Hospital for medical attention, was pronounced dead.
According to Mr. Eklu, the body has been deposited at the Police Hospital mortuary as investigations continue. The deceased owned the Louis Gas Filling stations at the Trade Fair site, Kisseman, Kpando, Kumasi and Tarkwa.
Mr. Eklu said when Mr. Aidoo, 45, arrived at home on Tuesday night around 2000 hours to a family welcome after parking his vehicle. He opened the trunk of his car and took out his bag which he handed over to the wife Benedicta. At that moment, the assailant jumped into compound of the house from a low fence wall. Mrs. Aidoo sensing danger after a warning shot by the armed robber, threw the bag containing some personal effects and an unspecified amount of money to the armed robber.
After the armed robber had picked the bag, he shot Mr. Aidoo in the chest and he fell on the ground groaning in pain. A GNA reporter who visited the crime scene on Wednesday morning was told by eyewitnesses that the armed robbers arrived on an unregistered motorbike early that evening. They stopped about 100 metres from the house pretending to be fixing their motorbike. According to the eyewitnesses, one of the armed robbers was beside the get- away bike waiting for the crime to be perpetrated. Immediately after the one who shot Mr. Aidoo jumped over the wall, he quickly jumped on the waiting motorbike and they sped off. They were chased by another bike but it could not track the assailants.
Mrs. Aidoo told GNA that the armed robber who shot her husband was wearing a black shirt and a pair of black trousers with white gloves on his right hand.
Two empty shells were found at the crime scene by the investigating crime officers from the Police Headquarters. The Police have mounted a man hunt for the alleged killers and robbers.
