Armed robbers kill Estate Developer

Accra, Sept. 19, GNA - Armed robbers on Monday night killed an Estate Developer, Mr Yussif Kumasseh in front of his house at Ashaley Botwe, near Accra and took away 20,000 Euros, one million cedis and a video camera among other things.

Mr Kumasseh had gone to the Kotoka International Airport to pick his friend, a Dutch Medical Doctor, Dr Hageraats Cess, 62, who was returning from Holland.

Chief Superintendent Al-Hajj Ismail Saakah, Deputy Greater Accra Police Commander, told the Ghana News Agency that Dr Cess has worked in the country for over two decades in areas like Jirapa, Techiman, Nandom and Kpare.

He said on the day in question Mr Kumasseh picked Dr Cess from the airport at around 2300 hours.

Mr Saakah said Dr Cess told the Police that when they were approaching the residence of Mr Kumasseh they saw a Mitsubishi four-runner with registration number GR 9801 R parked near the house and Mr Kumasseh remarked that in that secluded place the occupant of that vehicle might probably be waiting for a woman.

He said immediately after that Kumasseh honked the horn of his car for the gate to his house to be opened.

Chief Superintendent Saakah said another car with three occupants approached their car at the gates and put its lights on them and one of the armed men got down and headed straight for Dr Cess, who was sitting in the front of the car and started pulling his hand luggage from him. He said while the wrestling over the bag was going on Mr Kumasseh alighted with the intention of going to the aid of Dr Cess but he was shot in the process by the other attackers.

He said the robber succeeded in snatching the bag away.

Mr Kumasseh was rushed to the 37 Military Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
