Arrest Bryan Acheampong for his treasonable comments - Group to Police

Minister for Food and Agriculture and Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Bryan Acheampong Minister for Food and Agriculture and Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Bryan Acheampong

The Community Focus Foundation Ghana (CFF-Ghana) is calling on the Ghana Police Service to immediately arrest Member of Parliament (MP) for Abetifi and Minister of Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong, for his recent outbursts suggesting that the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) will resort to every possible means to win the December polls.

In a statement issued by the CFF-Ghana, the group said it has taken note of the dangerous and reckless statements made by Bryan Acheampong to the effect that the NPP will never hand over power to the winning party in the forthcoming elections.

"Firstly, the Minister is on record to have assured his party supporters during a rally to climax a health walk organised by the New Patriotic Party at Kwahu in the Eastern Region on Saturday, April 8, 2023, of the determination of the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government to hold on to power come what may.

"Secondly, Bryan is also alleged to have said during a campaign rally recently held on August 10, 2024, that 'before I end my speech, I want to reiterate that whether NDC likes it or not, they will never win the 2024 elections. They won't win. Whichever means we use to win the 2024 elections, we will use it," the group said.

It added, "We consider the above violence-inciting statements treasonable and condemn the same in no uncertain terms. In fact, Bryan Acheampong's bloodletting role played during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election, resulting in the maiming of innocent Ghanaians, and his reckless violence-inciting statements in recent times clearly show his resolve to assault Ghana's democracy."

"While at it, we consider the silence of the Ghana Police in the midst of these developments very unfortunate. To us, the mere warning of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. Akuffo Dampare, of dealing with miscreants during the election is not enough without taking bold actions in arresting Bryan Acheampong to answer for his treasonable comments."

The group, in its statement, also called on the National Peace Council to condemn selfish political actors like the Member of Parliament for Abetifi.

"As such, we call on the Ghana Police Service to act with the alacrity with which it arrests citizens who commit minor offenses that are not incendiary in nature. Additionally, we call on the National Peace Council and the voices of conscience to rise to the occasion and condemn selfish political actors, including Bryan Acheampong, who are hell-bent on jeopardizing our shared peace and happiness as a people," parts of the statement read.
