Arrest recalcitrant drivers - PROTOA

Mr Peter Ackom, the Sunyani Branch Chairman of the Progressive Transport Association of Ghana (PROTOA), has urged the police to arrest and prosecute drivers who disobey road safety regulations.

He has advised passengers to ensure that they board vehicles at approved lorry stations in the municipality as Christmas approaches.

Mr Ackom who speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Sunyani, expressed concern about the activities of commercial drivers who load and offload passengers at unapproved spots.

He said the situation had led to the loss of items and belongings of many passengers.

Mr Ackom said these unapproved spots create vehicular traffic, especially at the Central Business District of Sunyani township and urged the Motor Traffic and Transport Department of the Police to bring the situation under control.

He said the association receives complaints of loss items from unsuspecting passengers.

Mr Ackom said most of the commercial drivers who engage in these unscrupulous activities ply the Sunyani-Berekum, as well as Sunyani-Duayaw-Nkwanta-Bechem roads.

He said passengers who board vehicles at such spots do so at their own risk.
