Member of Parliament (MP) for Kumbungu Constituency in the Northern Region, Ras Mubarak has disagreed with concerns raised by members of his party about the arrest of the military man following his comments in respect of the $200 million parliament chamber.
He disclosed that the uniformed military man who has been identified Lance Corporal Wassa violated the regulations of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) with the video.
Quoting the specific violation in support of his stance, he stated “He has breached the Armed Forces Regulation Vol 1, Article 19, section 14 subsection 2 and article 19.36”
The Military High Command on Friday July 5, 2019 arrested an officer who is captured in a video demonstrating his displeasure against government’s intention to construct a new 450-seater chamber for parliament.
He described calls for the construction of a new chamber with a 450-seater capacity as selfish on the part of Parliamentarians, appealing to President Akufo-Addo not to support the plan.
His comments angered the Kumbungu lawmaker who described him as an embarrassment to the Ghana Armed Forces justifying his arrest and subsequent detention for violating the laws of the military.
He said in a post sighted by MyNewsGh.com “What an embarrassment to the military. If this unprofessional officer cares to know, majority of MPs don’t support spending $200m on a luxury chamber when many of our people lack essential services. That however doesn’t give an officer in uniform the right to misconduct himself. He has breached the Armed Forces Regulation Vol 1, Article 19, section 14 subsection 2 and article 19.36. Before he heard a word about it, it were MPs who kicked against it first. The fact that we want the chamber dropped doesn’t mean we should promote indiscipline #DropThatChamber”
