Arthur Kennedy: Mills death must be investigated to the fullest

Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) flag bearer hopeful, Dr. Kobina Arthur Kennedy has demanded full-fledge investigations into the circumstances leading to the sudden demise of the President, Professor John Evans Atta Mills.

According to the medical practitioner, the outcome of such enquiry would be relevant in guiding how the healths of future presidents are handled.

Speaking on an Accra based radio station on Friday, Dr. Arthur Kennedy insisted that since the President died within 24 hours upon arrival at the hospital, it is only thorough investigations that could douse the speculations surrounding his death.

“In medical terms if a patient dies within 24 hours upon arrival, hospital authorities are under obligation to conduct full-scale investigations to ascertain the cause of death.

“I strongly believe that it is about time we stop this African practice of let’s leave everything to God syndrome and rather go into what actually killed our President. He was my President and he was every body’s as well,” he submitted.

He continued that it is important for the nation to establish the real cause of the President’s death and ascertain the type of illness he was suffering from and the type of medication which was prescribed to cure him.

But he however ruled out criminal investigations.

In a related development, a member of the funeral committee, Nana Ato Dazie has debunked suggestions that the death of the President must be investigated, saying “Such decision could only be taken by the family.”

The death of President Mills was reported on Tuesday, July 24, at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra, after being taken ill.**
