Over 3000 artisans made up of carpenters, welders, sprayers, mechanics, electricians etc who were evacuated from the Takoradi Tanokrom- Kokompe land to make way for the construction of a Takoradi Mall have stormed the area to demand for their compensation before they allowed the opening of the mall.

According to one of the leaders, Micheal Wilson who spoke in an interview with Okoroko FM's Kweku Bee Abrante, the government forcefully ejected them from the land and gave them a land at Kansaworado Manpong but they later discovered that the land has not being paid for.

Others revealed that, the forceful ejection has forced about 31 of their members into their early grave and some committing suicide.

The artisans held placards with the inscriptions "Shoprite is condoning abuse of human rites", Hon. Joseph Kudjo where is our compensation?, We won't leave until we get our compensation" Western Development Consortium you have not treated us as human beings etc.

The situation compelled the security to grace the opening with a heavy security presence made up of the police and military in order to prevent and any chaos or uprising.
