Asakyiri (Ash), Jan 13, GNA - The Asakyiri 'Kroye Kuo', a benevolent society of citizens of Asakyiri near Bekwai in the Amansie East District, has set up a 100 million-cedi education endowment fund to assist needy but brilliant students in the town.
The association has also initiated programmes to promote education, health, and information technology and entertainment as well as credit schemes to reduce poverty.
Mr Kwame Opoku-Agyeman, the Public Relations officer of the association, said this at the inauguration of the association at Asakyiri on Sunday.
The inauguration coincided with a fund-raising ceremony to support the activities and programmes of the association.
Mr Opoku-Agyeman said the association had also planted trees to beautify the town and to protect the environment.
He expressed concern about the deplorable nature of the Bekwai-Asakyiri road and appealed to the government to rehabilitate it.
He advised parents in the town to do away with litigations and channel their resources into the education of their children since it is the only way to reduce poverty in the area.
Mr Opoku-Agyeman also appealed to the citizens of Asakyiri living abroad to come home and support the development efforts of the people.
