The new Asssistant Director-General in charge of Communicable Diseases is a Ghanaian - Dr. Anarfi Asamoa-Baah.
Dr Anarfi Asamoa-Baah, from Ghana, comes to the job with considerable experience in public health, health policy and health systems development. He has been working in WHO since 1998. Before that, he was the Director of Medical Services for Ghana. He started in WHO as a senior policy advisor to the Director-General. He was appointed Executive Director, External Relations and Governing Bodies in July 2000. Since last year, he has been the Executive Director for Health Technology and Pharmaceuticals.
