Former IBF welterweight Joshua Clottey has revealed that Black Stars’ striker Asamoah Gyan is still bitter about the captaincy loss to André Dede Ayew.
According to him, Asamoah Gyan is only proving tough to the World that he has let go off the issues surrounding the captain’s band which has been given to Dede Ayew by Coach James Kwesi Appiah.
Joshua Clottey indicated that though President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has resolved the issue, Asamoah Gyan as a human being still harbours some sort ill-feelings within his heart describing the fracas between them as a big problem.
He believes Asamoah Gyan is pretending to be taking the issue cool for Ghanaians to know that he’s a matured player but inwardly he is still hurt.
Joshua Clottey fears that Asamoah Gyan will not put in his best during the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) which starts on June 21, 2019 arguing that psychologically he is already down.
In his view, Asamoah Gyan needs courage to be able to play the match knowing that he has been stripped off the captain band to Dede Ayew.
In an interview with SVTV Africa sighted by MyNewsGh.com, Joshua Clottey said, ‘it will be tough for the Black Stars to win the Cup due to the pending issue between Asamoah Gyan and Dede Ayew. That issue is a big problem. Truthfully, Asamaoh Gyan is pretending to be taking it cool because he’s a matured guy, but within his heart, is not going to be easy for him, he’s not happy, how can he be happy on the field seeing that he has been stripped off the captain band?. There’s no way he will be happy during this AFCON’.
According to him, he would have done it in a manner Asamoah Gyan wouldn’t have been angry about the issue if he were to be the Coach saying the latter didn’t handle the issue well at all.
Joshua Clottey hoped that the Black Stars will bring the cup home to regnite the enthusiasm Ghanaians used to show towards such tournaments.
