Asante-Akim South exceeds revenue target

The Asante-Akim South District Assembly exceeded its revenue target for the first four months of the year by GH¢11,690.40, the District Chief Executive, Mr De-graft Fokuo, has announced.

It collected a total of GH¢88,584.70 compared with the targeted figure of GH¢76,894.30.

He attributed the strong performance to hard work and prudent measures put in place to prevent leakages in the revenue collection system.

Mr. Fokuo, who was addressing an ordinary meeting of the assembly at Juaso, said the Assembly would continue to adopt effective strategies to expand the revenue base to bring more development to the people.

For the second time, the assembly has been selected to benefit from the District Development Fund having satisfied all the requirements of the 2010 Functional Organization Assessment Tool (FLOAT), he said.

The DCE also spoke of efforts being made towards establishing a district fire station at Juaso to ensure prompt response to fire and other emergencies in the area.

He said office accommodation had already been secured for the purpose and everything was being done to get a fire tender.

On education, the DCE said the number of schools benefitting from the school feeding programme had increased from 8 to 28, with a total of 5,974 pupils being fed at least one hot meal daily.

Besides, 52 computers had been distributed to selected schools in the district to enhance the teaching and learning of Information Communication Technology (ICT).

The DCE later presented 65 motorbikes to all the assembly members and reminded them to take good care of the machines.

Mr. N.K. Aboagye, the Presiding Member, thanked the government for the initiative and said the bikes would facilitate the job of the assembly members.**
