The Asante Akropong Circuit Court has remanded 24-year-old Michael Gyamfi into police custody for stealing a metal table and unlawful entry at Abuakwa in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of the Asante Region.
During the court proceedings presided over by Mrs. Gloria Mensah Bonsu, the accused admitted to unlawful entry but denied stealing the metal table.
The prosecutor, Police Chief Inspector Evans Baaba Ayimbisa, explained to the court that the complainant, Evans Nsia, who is an electric welder, detected some pipes estimated at GHC 15,000 missing from his uncompleted building on December 13, 2024.
In search of his pipes in the uncompleted building, the complainant met a witness in the case who saw the accused and his accomplice stealing the items but did not take any action.
On December 16, 2024, the witness saw the accused and his accomplice again with a metal table estimated at GHC 1,000 and other metal pots. When the witness apprehended them and asked where they were taking the items, they threw the stolen items away and took to their heels.
The witness drew the attention of neighbours around, who joined him in chasing the accused and his accomplice until they caught the accused while his accomplice escaped, the prosecutor told the court.
He also said that after the neighbours got hold of the accused, they handed him over to the Abuakwa police. The accused admitted to entering the premises but did not accept stealing anything from the building.
The accused was, however, charged and arraigned before the court after a police investigation.
