Asante Gold Corporation, in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES), Western North, has officially inaugurated the maiden Ogyeahoho Science and Technology Fair, under the theme ‘Empowering Tomorrow’s Innovators Today,’ at Awaso, for Senior High School students in the Western North Region.

The event marks a significant milestone in promoting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education in the region, aiming to inspire and nurture the next generation of innovators and scientists.

The fair, which is expected to run from July 22 to July 26, 2024, will feature a diverse range of activities designed to engage students and spark their interest in STEM fields.

The opening ceremony was attended by such prominent figures as Seth Boateng, the Western North regional GES Director, and Nana Kwadwo Somiah II, Chief of Sehwi Ntakam and Abakomahene Anhweaso Traditional Area. Also in attendance were students from the region.

The General Manager of Asante Gold, Stephen Asante Yamoah, speaking at the ceremony, emphasized the company's commitment to supporting educational initiatives that foster scientific curiosity and technological advancement among the youth.

“Our operations at Asante Gold represent our dedication to fostering sustainable development and creating opportunities for the youth in our communities. By investing in education, we invest in the future, ensuring that the next generation is equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to drive innovation and progress,” Mr. Yamoah stated.

“As you explore the various exhibits and engage in exciting experiments, I encourage you to think beyond the classroom.” He urged the students to apply the knowledge from this fair to solve real-life challenges.

Mr. Yamoah reiterated Asante Gold’s aim to build stronger communities, foster educational excellence, and inspire future leaders. This science fair is just one of the many initiatives we support to achieve these goals.

On his part, Nana Kwadwo Somiah II thanked the Asante Gold Corporation for the initiative and the company’s continued support for the area, adding that their “unwavering commitment to enhancing the educational landscape of our area has not gone unnoticed. The provision of resources, scholarships, and infrastructural support has made a significant impact on the lives of our young ones, offering them opportunities that were once beyond their reach.”

The fair features interactive exhibits, hands-on workshops, and demonstrations that cover a wide range of scientific disciplines. Participants can engage in activities such as robotics, coding, website development, virtual reality, app development, artificial intelligence, 3D printing, digital skills, and career mentoring.

Mr. Seth Boateng, the Western North regional director of the GES, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration. “This partnership is a crucial step towards enhancing STEM education in our schools. By providing students with hands-on learning experiences, we are preparing them for future careers in science and technology, which are vital for the country’s development,” he added.

The Ogyeahoho Science and Tech Fair is not only an educational event but also a community celebration. It will bring together students, teachers, parents, and industry professionals, fostering a culture of learning and innovation in Awaso.

The program was organized by Avance Media in Partnership with the Ghana Education Service and Sefwi Anhwiaso Traditional Council.
