Asantehene appeals to Kumasi residents to undertake regular clean-ups

Kumasi, April 10, GNA- The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has appealed to residents in the Kumasi metropolis to regularly undertake clean-up exercises to ensure good environmental sanitation in their communities.

He said residents should be concerned about the growing in-sanitary conditions in the metropolis and take interest in communal activities that promoted cleanliness.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu was touring some suburbs and communities in Kumasi to acquaint himself with the clean-up exercise in Kumasi on Saturday. The exercise was part of activities marking the Asanteman 'Adae Kese' festival and the fifth anniversary of the enstoolment of Otumfuo Osei Tutu as the Asantehene.

Places he visited included Manhyia Zongo, Alabar, Suame Magazine, Old Tafo, Bantama, Atonsu, Kaase and the Kumasi abattoir. The enthusiastic residents thronged the streets where he passed to cheer and catch a glimpse of him.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu deplored the attitude of some residents who looked on unconcerned while the exercise were going on and said most diseases in the communities could be prevented if they kept their environment clean. He commended those who took part in the exercise and urged them to continue with the communal spirit to promote healthy environment in their areas.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu, was in a pair of trousers over boots with a striped long-sleeved shirt with a summer hat to match, and carried along a staff, a symbol of authority in his left hand.

Among the dignitaries who accompanied Otumfuo were the Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr S.K. Boafo, KMA Chief Executive, Mr Maxwell Kofi Jumah, Barima Asumadu Sakyi, Kumawuhene and chairman of the 'Adae Kese' Planning Committee and the Offinsohene, Nana Wiafe Akenten III.

Others were the Tepahene, Nana Adusei Atwenewaa Ampem, Asokore-Mamponghene, Nana Boakye Ansah Debrah, Bantamahene, Baffour Owusu Asare Amankwatia and some paramount and divisional chiefs of Asanteman.
