Asantehene lauded for educational development

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has been commended for being dedicated to the educational development of the less-endowed.

"His complementary efforts in the areas of scholarship, provision of Information, Communication and Technology devices and other educational materials and incentives, had inspired many needy pupils and students in their career development".

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kumasi, Mr. Kwame Fordjour, former assemblyman for Bomso, said it was imperative that traditional authorities and stakeholders committed resources to raising the standard of education in the country.

This, he said, was needed to strengthen the human resource base of the nation, overcome ignorance and also improve the literacy rate among the Ghanaian population.

Mr. Fordjour, also known as Opanin Kwame Kyem, advocated responsible use of the internet, saying using the media to peddle lies and create tension does not promote development and growth.

He cited recent rumour that went viral on the social media about the purported demise of the Asantehene, saying such lies were a calculated attempt to derail the focus of the people.

Mr. Fordjour noted that much as the internet had its advantages, care must be taken in order not to use it to the disadvantage of the nation's development process.
