The Asantewaa Korang Royal Family has organised its second annual free health screening at the Akyem Asafo Funeral Grounds in the Eastern Region.

The initiative, spearheaded by Ohemaa Vera Nelson, a US-based member of the royal family, is part of ongoing efforts to bridge healthcare gaps in Akyem Asafo.

The screening, which was organised in collaboration with the Motherhood of Africa Foundation and Akyem Asafo Health Centre, covered general health check-ups and consultations, providing critical services such as blood pressure, blood sugar, and BMI screenings to address lifestyle-related conditions.

Additionally, residents received eye and breast cancer screenings for early detection.

Other services included malaria testing, antenatal/prenatal care, and health education sessions on managing hypertension and diabetes.

As part of efforts to bolster local healthcare infrastructure, the royal family donated medical beds, baby cots, draping, and essential medical supplies to the Akyem Asafo Health Centre.

One of the medical officers leading the screening was Ohemaa Asantewaa Twum, a young medical doctor and rising star in the royal family, whose humanitarian work extends across Ghana and beyond.

The resident physician assistant for the area, Solomon Kwesi Dzade, also played a key role in the screening exercise, which took place on January 3, 2025.

Community members expressed their gratitude for the initiative.

"I hadn’t checked my blood pressure in years. This screening was a blessing," said 68-year-old Adwoa Mensah.

At the end of the event, Ohemaa Vera Nelson was honored with a citation recognizing her leadership and the family’s unwavering contributions to community health.
