Asawasi MP assists BECE candidates

Kumasi, Jan. 04, GNA - Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, Member of Parliament for Asawasi, has organised a three-week free special classes for 600 final-year students in deprived basic schools in the constituency ahead of this year's Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in April.

The programme financed from his share of the MP's Common Fund estimated at about 12 million cedis, formed part of measures he has instituted to provide adequate preparation for the candidates in the four core subjects. These are Mathematics, English, Science and Social Studies. The beneficiary schools are Ghana Muslim Mission, New Aboabo, Akorem, Adukrom, Sepe-Timpom, Wataniya Islamic, Najahiya Islamic, Asawasi Methodist and Catholic, and Asawasi Metropolitan Authority Basic Schools.

During a tour of the schools on Wednesday, Alhaji Mubarak told the candidates to be serious with their studies and come out with flying colours. He commended the teaching staff for their dedicated service and was optimistic the programme would assist the students to complete their syllabi on time to succeed in the examination. In another development, Alhaji Mubarak has donated 25 streetlight bulbs worth about 10 million cedis to three communities in the constituency to improve security in those areas. This was in fulfilment of a promise to the people and the beneficiary communities are Sepe-Timpom and Boaban which had five bulbs each and Asabi receiving 15 bulbs.

Alhaji Mubarak presenting the bulbs at Asabi, called on the citizenry to form Neighbourhood Watch Committees to sustain security in their areas. He appealed to the Department of Urban Roads to speed up work on the resurfacing of the four-kilometre Aboabo-Asokore-Mampong road to enhance economic activities in the area. Nana Akwasi Boadi Poku, Chief of Asabi, who received the items on behalf of the communities, commended the MP for living up to expectation and gave the assurance that the items would be well utilised.
