Ashanti GJA expresses concern about gangsters in Kumasi metropolis

Kumasi, March 6, GNA - The Ashanti regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has expressed grave concern about the recent terrorist acts that were meted out to some residents of the Kumasi metropolis by a group of gangsters.

The GJA described it as unhealthy and unacceptable and therefore, called on the Police Command to be more proactive to deal with the situation.

The concern was expressed at a press conference held in Kumasi at the weekend by the GJA and addressed by its chairman, Mr Samuel Ennin. Mr Ennin said the GJA views the development as worrisome, saying, even though some members of the gangsters were well known by residents and to some extent the police, "fear stops them from exposing them". He advised residents and the police to shirk themselves of any fears and co-operate with each other to expose and bring the perpetrators of such horror to book.

Mr Ennin said it was common knowledge that suburbs like Akwatialine, Ash-Town, Dichemso and Moshie-Zongo were notorious for unleashing terror onto innocent residents, saying, "these are areas the police should strive to step up its efforts at flushing out such criminals".

The GJA chairman, whilst imploring the police to step up efforts at flushing out the gangsters, also cautioned the media against the practice of outright condemnation of the police on the least provocation or error.
