Ashanti NDC Chairman denies GH¢60,000 claim

Mr. Yaw Owusu Obimpeh, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), has denied having received cash of Ghc60,000 to transport people to the grand durbar held to climax the 15th anniversary celebration of the enthronement of the Asantehene.

He said he was completely shocked by the allegation, terming it as “mischievous, wicked and evil.”

The Regional Chairman's denial is contained in a press statement issued in Kumasi in reaction to media reports that he, together with two other party officials, the Regional Organizer and Deputy Regional Secretary, have come under intense pressure over the said money.

An Accra-based newspaper, “Today,” in its May 20 edition, claimed the three have irked the Presidency for failing to deliver the expected large crowd of people for which they had collected the cash.

Mr. Obimpeh, however, in a terse statement, insisted that “this is totally false, a fiction - it has no iota of truth”.

“I never received any such money and I find it hard to understand why anybody should be motivated to scandalize me.

Telling lies about others to achieve whatever ends, is undignified and certainly not the right path to travel,” he added.
