Ashanti NDC Youth takes a swipe at Minority in Parliament

Kumasi, Dec. 18, GNA - The Ashanti Regional Youth Wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Friday described as unfortunate the decision by the Minority in Parliament to drag Mr Koku Anyidoho, Head of Communications at the Presidency to the Privileges Committee of Parliament, for remarks he is alleged to have made that they found insulting.

They said the move smacked of hypocrisy, intolerance and double standards, considering the fact that some leading members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) both outside and inside parliament had in recent times shown disrespect to the Presidency by their utterances and posture.

"If NPP MPs do not find anything wrong with insults on the President, who gives face to the nation, but are quick to raise hell, because they are at the receiving end, then Ghanaians should be their own judges." This was contained in a press statement signed by Mr Kwaku Boahen, Regional Youth Organiser, and issued in Kumasi on Friday.

They urged politicians to do away with pettiness and to ensure that "we become more principled by maintaining consistency in our posturing, decisions and actions." The Youth Wing pledged to stand by Mr Anyidoho and insisted he should not apologise to anybody. "Again, we are asking Mr Anyidogo not to honour any invitation to him by the Privileges Committee."
