Ashanti Region NPP Chairmen call on President Kufuor

Accra, July 28, GNA - Chairmen of New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 33 constituencies of the Ashanti Region on Monday paid a courtesy call on President John Agyekum Kufuor at the Castle, Osu.

Nana Adu Asabere, Asante Akim North Constituency Chairman of the NPP and Spokesman for the Chairmen, who held a meeting with President Kufuor behind closed doors recounted the contributions made by President Kufuor from the inception of the Party in 1992.

He said President Kufuor played a remarkable role when the Danquah-Busia Tradition was formed in 1992 and culminated into the Party that eventually won power in 2000 after being in opposition for more than 30 years.

Nana Asabere said although it had taken the Chairmen some time to pay a courtesy call on President Kufuor since he assumed power now was the appropriate time to congratulate him on the efficient manner he was directing the socio-economic development of the country.

He said the sterling leadership of President Kufuor had not only manifested in Ghana but within the entire West Africa Sub-Region since he was elected Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and beyond the shores of the African Continent.

Nana Asabere said " we have confidence in you and would continue to support you to win the 2004 elections to improve on the living standards of Ghanaians".

President Kufuor thanked the Chairmen for the visit and said the government was poised to improve on the socio-economic development of the country as well as the living standards of the people.
