The Ashanti Regional President of the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) Listowel Yesu Burkason has been sacked.

The decision to axe the embattled regional GJA Boss who has been under pressure to resign after he contested in the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries in Builsa North constituency, was taken at an emergency executive committee.

The basis upon which he was sacked include the fact that he has failed to pay his dues for several years and had also collected huge sums of monies from some corporate institutions and has failed to pay back, a behaviour that has impacted negatively on the reputation of the GJA.

In his absence, Mrs Elizabeth Kankam-Boadu will act as the Acting Regional President.

In September, the National President of the GJA, Affail Monney issued a statement saying Mr Burkason seized to be the leader of the Ashanti Regional branch of the Association after going into politics.

“He cannot do politics while occupying the position as the regional chairman of the Ghana Journalist Association. Burkason is no more the regional chairman of the GJA in the Ashanti Region and the mantle falls on the Vice Chairman to act as chairperson till fresh elections are held held in the Ashanti Region for his replacement,” he stressed.

Below is the full statement

The attention of the Ashanti Regional branch of the Ghana Journalists’ Association(GJA) has been drawn to the fact that Mr Listowell Yesu Bukarson, has been moving from one radio station to another holding himself up as the substantive Regional Chairman of the GJA.

We, the executives, wish to inform corporate bodies, embassies, metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies, ministries, departments and agencies and the general public that, Listowell is not the chairman of the Regional GJA.

It would be recalled that he contested in the primaries of the New Patriotic Party for the parliament seat of the Builsa North constituency in the Upper East Region of Ghana, but lost.

He went by the name Listowell Awaambe Bukarson.

A statement signed by the National Executives of the GJA requested him to resign.

The statement further asked the Ashanti Regional Vice Chairperson, Mrs Elizabeth Kankam-Boadu to act as the Regional Chairperson.
