AshantiGold were increasing my salary to ward off clubs - Fatau Dauda

Former goalkeeper Fatau Dauda has disclosed that AshantiGold SC's strategy of frequently increasing his salary deterred other clubs from signing him.

Dauda played for the Miners for eight years during his first stint from 2006 to 2013, and then returned for a second spell from 2014 to 2016. His impressive performances made him a target for several clubs both locally and internationally, but he never left AshGold.

He explained that the club's tactic of regularly raising his salary ensured he remained at the Len Clay Stadium.

"Whenever a new club showed interest in me, AshGold always said they wouldn't let me go. They increased my salary, and I always ended up staying," Dauda, now the Black Stars' goalkeeper trainer, told Joy Sports.

Dauda also mentioned that he made good investments with the money he earned from AshGold.

"The first house I built was from AshGold, a four-bedroom apartment. At that time, if you were disciplined, you could do a lot with the money from the Ghana Premier League," he added.

After his first stint with AshGold, Dauda joined Orlando Pirates and later moved to Chippa United.
