Mr Naser Mahama Toure, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for East Ayawaso, has urged members of the NDC Zongo Caucus to unite to ensure victory in the 2016 general election.
He said although the NDC is the ruling party, there is the need for members and sympathisers of the party not to relent in their efforts but continue to work in unity to be able to maintain power in subsequent elections.
Mr Toure was addressing members of the Zongo Caucus at the Greater Regional conference held to endorse newly elected executives.
He said the Zongo Caucus is one of the wings and pillars of the party which by all standards promote the NDC in all zongo communities nationwide.
Mr Toure, who is also a former patron of the caucus, said the NDC under the leadership of former Presidents Jerry John Rawlings, late President John Evans Atta Mills and President John Dramani Mahama had done a lot for zongo communities.
“But we are still expecting more developmental projects and jobs from the NDC Government for the youth in zongo communities,” he said.
He asked members of the NDC and the zongo caucus to desist from statements that have the tendency to undermine the party’s plan to win the 2016 election.
Alhaji Yussif Captain, National Co-ordinator of the Caucus, said the NDC has recognised the performance of the caucus and granted it voting rights at the National Executive level.
He said zongo communities throughout the country have been classified as NDC supporters, an indication of the commitment of Zongo residents to the party.
Alhaji Mohammed Ashkah, Regional Co-ordinator, on behalf of the executives thanked members of the caucus for the confidence reposed in them and assured them of their commitment to work towards NDC victory in the zongos.
