The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Johnson Asiedu Nketia has taken a swipe at trainee nurses for supporting agitations of their colleagues who have graduated and awaiting postings.

The NDC scribe’s comments come after hundreds of trainee Nurses and Midwives demonstrated in Accra over what they call government’s lack of interest to resolve the concerns of the trainees.

The demonstration is to press home their demands for government to pay trainee nurses, and midwives some allowances due them.

The action is to also secure employment for all qualified nurses and midwives. Some of the demonstrators speaking to Starr News said they are tired of being neglected by the Mahama-led administration.

But speaking to a local radio station in Wa in the Upper West region, Mr. Asiedu Nketia questioned why employed nurses are leading the demonstrations.

“Those who are leading the trainee nurses association now, none of them is a trainee nurse, they have finished school and when they do demonstration to disrupt classes, it does not affect them because they have written their final exams.

“Because they have written their exams, they have the space to go round all the schools to cause agitation, when it leads to the closure of the school they are not affected, those who are yet to write their exams are the ones to be affected.
