Aspirants should organize campaign on issues- Group

Friends of Nii Armah Ashietey, Member of Parliament for Klottey-Korle, have urged contestants of the parliamentary seat in the Constituency to focus on issues and avoid campaign along tribal lines.

Mr Sacut Amenya-Etego, spokesperson of the group, said it was important for all aspirants to compete in a clean and healthy manner, and avoid underhand preemptive tactics which could mar the beauty of democracy.

Speaking at a press briefing, Mr Amenya-Etego said the group was surprised to hear that Ms Zenator Rawlings, one of the parliamentary aspirants claimed to have dredged the Klottey Lagoon, while the dredging was facilitated by Mr Ashietey.

He said Mr Ashietey had built a good reputation for himself, mobilized grassroot support, and engaged foot soldiers to wrestle seat from the New Patriotic Party in 2008.

Mr Amenya-Etego said Mr Ashietey in line with the President’s transformational agenda, had focused on facilitating access to health care and quality education, improved sanitation and promoted skills-training towards job creation.

He said the incumbent in the area of health, had constructed a waiting area at the Osu Government Maternity Home, provided boreholes for the Ridge Hospital and the Adabraka Polyclinic, and renovated a Dental Clinic at Adabraka.

Mr Amenya-Etego added that Mr Ashietey had rehabilitated a number of schools, including the Osu Presby Boys Primary, St Thomas Primary, Osu Salem Basic, Osu Presby Kindergarten and King Tackie Schools.

He urged the delegates to vote massively for Mr Ashietey on November 7 to enable him lead the party to retain the seat.
