Aspiring General Secretary of CPP promises new direction for party

Kumasi, Dec. 5, GNA - Mr Serchen Komba, a contestant for the General Secretary position of the Convention People's Party (CPP), has promised to provide the party with strategic direction to enable it win the 2008 elections if he is given the mandate by the delegates. The CPP, he said, was about the most vibrant and viable alternative party capable of spearheading the nation's socio-economic aspirations and that it was high time well meaning supporters brainstormed to improve upon the party's internal structures.

Mr Komba, a civil engineer, was interacting with supporters of the party in Kumasi on Monday to outline his vision and programme for the party ahead of the elections to choose a General Secretary. He said he intended to institute effective measures for a decentralized system of acquiring party membership card to enhance the party's support base.

He also promised to establish viable income generating and welfare activities that would be incorporated into the party's organization as a way of encouraging activists to the party.

Mr Komba attributed the CPP's failure in past elections to lack of a well-defined programme to market the party's vision and policies adequately to the electorate to enable them differentiate the CPP from other parties.

He also cited inadequate funds and logistics as well as low publicity of the party and its socio-economic philosophy as some of the factors that had contributed to the CPP's decline. The aspirant took a swipe at the NPP and NDC for the impunity with which they had for some time now infiltrated the camp of the CPP to the latter's disadvantage.

He, therefore, declared his resolve to work hard to stem this practice and ensure that members remained loyal to the CPP when given the mandate as General Secretary.
