Bolgatanga, July 5, GNA - Dr Gheysika Agambila, an aspiring Member of Parliament for the Bolgatanga Central Constituency, has stated that he would ensure that the price of cement was uniform in the Upper East Region.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, the aspiring MP expressed worry about the high cost of cement in the Upper East Region as compared to the southern parts of the country, which is cheaper.
"I will lobby to ensure that there is uniform price for cement across the country. The people of Upper East Region cannot be made to purchase cement at higher cost whereas their counterparts purchased the same products at comparatively lower prices".
Dr. Agambila said another area dear to his heart, which he would push for is major rehabilitation of the Vea Irrigation dam, which has been the major source of water supply to the Bolgatanga Municipality and its environs, adding that the dam has never seen any renovation since it was established in the 1970s.
"I foresee that there may be major crisis of water in future and we must begin working to ensure that the facility is rehabilitated to avoid any unforeseen circumstance".
He stated that he would also be working to ensure that a regional capital university was established and indicated that all the Regional capitals have universities and wondered why Bolgatanga which is a regional capital did not have one.
Mr Agambila indicated that another major problem confronting the region was the shortage of Doctors and Teachers, and said he would lobby to ensure that these categories of professionals who accepted postings to rural areas in the region especially rural Bolgatanga were offered special salaries and better remunerations.
He expressed regret that the Region lacked a premier team and said he would play a leading role to establish one in the Region, saying that it was one of the good methods that could be used to market the potentials of the Region.
"It will also help curb rural urban migration among the youth by providing employment to the teaming youth in the area and reduce the spate of vices among them".
He noted that one of his ambitions would be to broaden the narrow nature of road networks in the Municipality and its environs to ease free movement of goods and people.
