A GHC64,000 solar mechanised borehole constructed by AG Care Ghana and funded by Christian Children’s Fund of Canada (CCFC) for Jilo community in the Nanumba North District of the Northern Region has been commissioned.

In his welcome address, Mr James Jefferson Abdulai Acting Partner Programme Manager of AG Care, Ghana, formerly Assemblies of God Relief and Development Service (AGREDS) is a Church based non-profit development Organisation (NGO) that coordinated all the development and relief programmes of Assemblies of God Church, Ghana.

He said with resources from international organisations like the CCFC, Nanumba Child Development Programme (NCDP) they implemented programmes in education, health and Nutrition, water sanitation and hygiene, sustainable livelihood development.

He said they also strengthened community organisation and community advocacy in seven deprived communities of Dakpam, Taali, Pusuga, Kpabi, Binda and Jilo with children and women as their primary target groups.

According to him, they were operating in Districts where access to quality education, health care, water and sanitation and business opportunities were poor, thus contributing to the achievement of five out of the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGS).

He announced that NCDP was a child-focused programme initialled by AG. Care Ghana in 1999 as a response to the devastating effects of 1994 ethnic conflict in the area and operated in the Eastern Corridor of Northern Region of Ghana with its activities covering Nanumba North Municipality, Nanumba South District and Yendi Municipality and the most deprived areas in Ghana.

He said the people of Jilo benefited from the solar mechanised borehole because they improved on open defecation free by constructing household latrines.

Mr Abdulai Yaquob, the Nanumba North Municipal Chief Executive who commissioned the solar mechanised borehole said it was the responsibility of the Assembly to provide such facilities for the people.

He said it was the first time a solar mechanised borehole was provided for a community in the area and assured them that the maintenance and proper care of the project would be done.

He thanked AG. Care Ghana and CCFC for providing people with safe drinking water.

In an address read on behalf of the Country Director of CCFCMr. George Baiden indicated that CCFC was interested in Programmes that would bring healthy life to communities.

Mr William Anim Dankwa, the CCFC Communication Manager who delivered the address on his behalf said around the world many people could not get water resulting in deaths adding that it would also enable to go to school uninterrupted.

Mr. Kwabena Tutor Sponsorship Manager of CCFC appealed to them to send their children to school and advised them to cultivate maintenance culture to ensure its long lifespan.

Nachin Na of Bimbilla, Imoro Alhassan said they suffered for water for so many years and a nine-member committee made up of five women and four men was put in place to take care of the borehole.
