Assemblies should explore opportunities in PPP — Afotey-Agbo

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo, has advised Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to explore the option of Public Private Partnerships (PPP) in providing infrastructure in the units.

He said the strategy would afford the MMDAs many opportunities and sources of funding and ultimately result in the availability of internally generated funds and funds from the central government and to improve other areas which might not immediately attract private sector investment.

Nii Afotey-Agbo gave the advice when he commissioned a new office block of the Environmental Health Unit of the Ga West Municipal Assembly in Amasaman.

A Ghana News Agency report said the construction of the Ghc298,194.00 facility was funded by the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF).

Nii Afotey-Agbo charged the Environmental Health Officers to pursue vigorous health education campaigns to eliminate filth-related diseases like cholera and ensure that residents adhere to personal and environmental cleanliness.

“Let your presence be felt in the municipality and make sure you do not sit in your offices for people to die of preventable diseases,” he said.
