.. receive their share of the Common Fund
Funsi (UWR), Sept 16, GNA - Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies that failed to confirm Chief Executives nominated by the Government would not receive their share of Assemblies Common Fund, Mr. Charles Bintim Minister of Local Government and Rural Development said on Thursday.
He said Chief Executives were Chairmen of the Executive and Tender Committees, which other people could not handle in their absence therefore, it was more prudent to allow the money to remain at the Ministry than to release it into an account that could not be accessed. Mr. Bintim was addressing workers of the 22 Decentralised departments in Wa East District at Funsi as part of his three-day familiarisation tour of the Upper West Region. Other districts visited were, Sissala East and West. He said the Ministry would soon advertise the vacant Chief Executive positions and was optimistic they would be filled by the end of December.
Mr Bintim regretted that most of the newly created District Assemblies had problems in confirming the Chief Executives and advised them to close their ranks and forge ahead for the development of the districts.
He urged them to eschew rancour, bitterness and conflicts because such tendencies undermined peace, unity and development. Mr. Hikah Benson, Deputy Upper West Regional Minister asked the workers not to engage in politics, chieftaincy and other disputes that could impede development in the area. "As a new district, your focus should be on development and not to engage in fruitless struggles that will leave you impoverished than before," He added.
