Assembly Members urged to eschew partisan politicking

Nsawkaw (B/A) Dec. 27, GNA - Madam Lilian Serwaa, Presiding Member of Tain District Assembly in Brong-Ahafo has urged Assembly Members to guard against partisan politics so they could exchange ideas and initiate and complete development programmes.

She was addressing the Assembly at a meeting at Nsawkaw at which the various sub-committees were formed.

The Presiding Member stressed that if the Members operated in harmony and cooperated with each other they would be able to initiate laudable development programmes that would help the people to improve their living conditions.

Madam Serwaa asked the Members to collaborate with the unit committees to identify the needs of their communities.

She said the sub-committees were very crucial and essential components and appealed to the Assembly Members to be very responsive to meetings of the committees and contribute to the effective running of the Assembly.

Mr. Emmanuel S.K. Owusu, District Chief Executive, urged the Members to educate their people to guard against bushfires during the harmattan season to save the environment, lives and properties. He implored traditional rulers, Assembly Members and unit committees to support and encourage fire volunteers in their activities. The DCE disclosed that an orientation course would be organized for the Assembly Members to equip them with the contents of the standing orders of the Assembly.

Mr. Emmanuel Num, District Coordinating Director, called on the Assembly Members to advise the people to pay their taxes to enable the Assembly to carry out development programmes in the various communities. He urged them to organize the people to initiate self-help development projects to attract government support.

The sub-committees are for justice and security, finance and administration, agricultural and environment, development planning, social services, works, public relations and complaints, and women and children affairs.
