Assembly accepts recommendation to terminate contract

Nkawie (Ash), Feb. 17, GNA - The Atwima-Nwabiagya District Assembly has terminated a contract of Messrs Newbridge Limited for the construction of a four-unit teachers' quarters for the Dabaa District Assembly Primary School.

This followed recommendation from the Architectural and Engineering Services Limited (AESL) for the failure of the company to complete the project on schedule although a greater percentage of the contract sum had been paid to the contractor.

In a letter to the AESL, the Assembly further requested that the contractor be made to pay all necessary liquidated damages to the client.

The Assembly noted with concern that the action of the contractor was seriously impeding its effort to improve upon academic performance in the school since most teachers had no accommodation in the community and therefore commuted from Kumasi to school daily. When the GNA contacted Mr Thomas Ofori-Donkor, Atwima-Nwabiagya District Chief Executive, he said the behaviour of the contractor had been a major source of worry to the Assembly and said a similar project funded under the Social Investment Fund (SIF) had also been abandoned by the contractor.

He gave the assurance that the Assembly would continue work on the two projects to ensure their completion.
