Assembly members appeal for reconstruction of a bridge

Gomoa Brofo (C/R), March 7, GNA - The Assembly Members for Antseadze - Gomoa Maim, Mr Shaibu Asiedu and Gomoa Brofo, Mr De-Graft Sackey have appealed to the Gomoa District Assembly and the Department of Feeder Roads to repair the bailey bridge over the Ochi River, which collapsed about a month ago.

The bridge, which was constructed in 1956 collapsed when a cargo truck conveying materials to Gomoa Ajumakoansa for the construction of boreholes by Adventist Relief and Development Agency (ADRA) was crossing it.

The driver's mate lost his life in the accident. The Assembly Members speaking at a news briefing at Gomoa Brofo said if the bridge was reconstructed before the raining season, Asempanyin, Ajumakoansa, Brebiano, Ebiramkwaa and Tweikukrom would be completely cut off from the rest of the District.

Mr Shaibu pointed out that school and farming activities would be affected since most of the teachers in the area lived at Gomoa Brofo. Mr Sackey said the people of Brofo had their farms at the other side of the river and could only get to their farms crossing the bridge. Mr Asiedu said the collapse of the bridge had also affected water supply to Asempanyin as the pipelines were attached to the bridge.
