Assembly pays 1.2 billion cedis debt

Fomena(Ash), Oct.14, GNA - The Adansi North District Assembly received 4.8 billion cedis as its share of the Assemblies Common Fund last year.

Mr Peter Kwabena Ameyaw, District Chief Executive announced this at the assembly's meeting at Fomena.

He said due to some deductions made at source, the assembly actually received 3.8 billion cedis.

Mr Ameyaw said the assembly in addition, had to pay a debt of 1.2 billion cedis owed to the Adansi South and Obuasi Municipal assemblies. He said the remaining amount of 2.6 billion cedis, was judiciously utilized for the renovation of the residential and office facility of the assembly, purchased two vehicles for the administration and procured office equipment and furniture.

Mr Ameyaw said with regard to the guidelines on the disbursement of money from the Fund, some of the assembly's projects for 2005, would be deferred to next year.

He said some development projects including the construction of a six classroom block at Adiembra, Anhwiaso and the completion of a six classroom block at Old Edubiase, were being financed from the assembly's share of 1.2 billion cedis for the first quarter. Other projects include the construction of housing units at Fomena, the District Co-ordinating Director's bungalow and re-shaping of Fomena town roads.

Mr Ameyaw urged the assembly members to co-operate and work to ensure all structures of the assembly function effectively to develop the district.
