Assembly steps up revenue mobilization

Bibiani (W/R), July 22, GNA - The Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai District Assembly has adopted a number of measures to improve its revenue collection performance.

These include legal action against tax defaulters, recruitment of more revenue collectors, incentive packages and strengthening of its data collection base.

This was at an ordinary meeting of the assembly held at Bibiani.

Mr Adansi Bondah, District Chief Executive (DCE), said the assembly could not rely solely on its share of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) to carry out its development programmes.

As at the end of June, it had collected GH¢336,746.90 out of the projected target of GH¢777,805.00 for the year, representing 43 percent.

Mr Bondah spoke of plans to enforce its environmental sanitation bye-laws to rid the area of filth and prevent diseases.

“It is sad to note that most of the diseases that are daily reported to health facilities in the district are environmentally related and this certainly cannot be allowed to continue.”

He praised Noble Gold Bibiani Limited, a mining company in the area, for the support it was giving to the assembly to efficiently manage solid waste in the district.

Touching on education, the DCE said a new block would be built to house the District Education Office.

More schools would also be included in the school feeding programme, he added.
