Assets Of Ex-Krontihene Seized

The assets of an ex-krontihene of Krapa near Ejisu in the Ashanti Region, Nana Diko Kwarteng, have been seized by the Police following his conviction by an American Court for importing heroin into the US. The ex-Chief, know in private life as James Kwadwo Kwarteng, was sentenced to eight years imprisonment in November 1994 by the District Court of Maryland. The assets seized pending confiscation include a house at Kwadaso Estate Extension in Kumasi and two vehicles. A Police statement issued in Kumasi said a combined team of Police personnel from Accra and Kumasi seized the assets last weekend under powers conferred on the Commissioner of Police C.I.D. by the Narcotic Drugs Control, Enforcement and Sanctions Law of 1990. The law provides that whoever is convicted either in Ghana or any foreign country for narcotic offence shall have his or her assets confiscated by the state. Efforts are still being made by the police to file notice of seizure of other assets of Kwarteng in Accra. End
