Assin North and South assemblies approve their DCEs

Assin Nsuaem-Kyekyewre (C/R), June 4, GNA - The Nuasem-Kyekyewre district assembly on Friday approved the President's nominee, Madam Millicent Alice Korankye, as its first District Chief Executive (DCE) for the new Assin South district.

Madam Korankye, 56, polled 24 votes, representing 77 percent of the 31 members present, while seven voted against her.

Officials from the district office of the Electoral Commission conducted the election while Mr. Justice Joseph Blay, the Assin Fosu district magistrate, swore the DCE into office. In her acceptance speech, the DCE described her appointment as "a success story of Assinman".

She prayed for reconciliation, cooperation and unity among the people in the district to facilitate development. The Minister for Lands and Forestry and Mines, Professor Dominic Fobi, who is also the MP for the area, called for support to the DCE to enable her perform creditably.

Professor Fobi advised the people to burry their differences and come out with constructive criticism and suggestions to push the district's developmental agenda forward.

Mr. Anthony Arthur, the Presiding Member of the Assembly, commended the traditional rulers in the area for their "tireless efforts" at fighting for the development of the area over the years and urged them to keep it up.

Mr. Arthur advised the DCE to respect the views of all stakeholders to pave the way for smooth administration. In another development, the Assini North district Assembly on Friday also approved the nomination of Mr. Kwabina Karikari Apau, as the DCE for the area. Mr. Apau was endorsed by 24 out of the 31 assembly members who voted.
