Accra, May 18, GNA - Novotel Market Traders Association at Odornaa, has appealed to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) to re-allocate deserted stalls at the Odornaa Market at Nkrumah Circle in Accra, to members. The group expressed worry that hawkers and traders continue to operate in front of the stalls, preventing customers from having easy access to the market thereby compelling those selling at the facility to also sell on pavements and streets.
Miss Bernice Otoo, President of the Association, who made the appeal in Accra on Monday, said while the stalls remained empty the space behind the Hawkers' Market and pavement were choked with hawkers and petty traders. She expressed regret that even though the AMA began a decongestion exercise around the Accra Central Business Area and NOVOTEL part, hawkers were gradually returning to those areas. Miss Otoo said traders at the Odornaa Market appreciates the decongestion exercise and stressed that the AMA should re-allocate the more than 200 empty stalls at the market to members of the Association. Numo Blafo III, Public Relation Officer of the AMA, told the GNA that the Assembly would collaborate with the Osu Klottey Sub-Metro Directorate, to send traders and hawkers who were still on the streets and pavements back to the markets.
