Goaso (B/A), June 10, GNA - Asunafo North Municipal Assembly in the Brong-Ahafo Region has terminated some contracts it awarded two years ago because of delay in their execution.
The projects included roads, school infrastructure and health facilities, Mr. Mohammed Kwaku Doku, Municipal Chief Executive, disclosed, told the first ordinary session of the assembly at Goaso. He said contracts terminated would be re-packaged and re-awarded and that jobs awarded to contractors whose performance was not encouraging would also be terminated.
Mr Doku said he had directed the audit unit of the assembly to transfer all over-stayed revenue officers and collectors to ensure sanity in revenue mobilization.
He said the transfers were necessary in view of the inability of the revenue collectors to generate enough revenue. Mr. Doku said reports showed that the revenue collectors only collected fish, plantain and other food items from the market women. He said revenue generation in the municipality had reduced considerably making it extremely difficult for the assembly to implement projects from internally generated funds.
"The assembly cannot rely only on the Common Fund for development projects," Mr Doku said and expressed disappointment that out of the projected revenue of GHC 287,344 for the year, the assembly collected only GHC 9,269.
