The people of the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region for the first time in their history have a fully completed astroturf facility, thanks to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Youth Authority (NYA), Puis Enam Hadzide who has commissioned the facility for use by the general public.

Mr. Hadzide, also the NPP Parliamentary Candidate (PC) for the area on Monday, 31st July, 2023 broke the grounds for the construction of the GH₵5m project at the Senchi Methodist Basic School to help enhance and improve the development of young football talents in the area.

The project with funding from the NYA allocation of the District Assembly's Common Fund (DACF), is anticipated to serve as the game changer in sports development in the area.

The CEO explained that siting the project in the District was out of the need to provide acilities to help polish them.

The facility comes with a football pitch, stands, and floodlights, as well as a sitting area.

Speaking in an interview, Mr. Hadzide who facilitated the establishment of the artificial pitch credited the accomplishment to President Akufo Addo's desire to improve on talent development in the area.

“Sporting activities are one of the lucrative sources of income, and Ghana must embrace it by investing in it, and that’s why the president has taken it upon himself to ensure that astro turfs are constructed to help improve sports talents across the breadth and length of the country,” he said.

Furthering, he said, “The motivation is extrinsic, in the sense that the young people of this constituency have been complaining, putting pressure on me, and crying that they too deserve a modern pitch.”

According to the aspiring legislator, there was the need to invest in sports infrastructure to help young people in the district develop their skills.

Addressing issues of maintenance to ensure that the pitch lasts long, he explained that a management committee had been established to ensure that the turf is well maintained to serve its purpose.
