Asuom (E/R), April 15, GNA - The Parent-Teacher-Association (PTA) of the Asuom Secondary School (ASEC) in the Kwaebirirem District yesterday presented a 140-million-cedi 23-seater Mercedes Benz bus to the school.
The chairman of the PTA, Nana Asante Bediako, who presented the keys of the vehicle to the headmaster of the school, Mr P. T. A. Amponsah, said the PTA was fulfilling a promise to provide the school with one of its felt needs.
Nana Bediako said the PTA planned to procure 50 computers for the school, which presently rents 30 computers from an ICT centre in Accra. Mr Amponsah expressed the school's appreciation to the PTA and said the school would appreciate if the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) could provide it with a bigger bus that could take more students on educational tours.
He said there was the need to renovate the Assembly/dining hall, some of the classrooms and also fencing of the school to prevent trespassers and ensure the safety of the students.
Addressing the staff and students, the District Chief Executive, Mr Yaw Yiadom-Boakye, announced that, the school has been selected for upgrading into a model one with improved provision of facilities. Mr Yiadom-Boakye was happy to note that there was discipline in the school now, saying, if there was any problem, it should be peacefully resolved by the school authorities.
The DCE advised the students to ensure that the bus was always kept neat and promised that the District Assembly would purchase four new tyres for the bus.
The chairman of the Board of Governors, Mr S. A. Birikorang, called on the students to show appreciation for the sacrifices made by their parents by studying hard to excel in the final examinations.
